This smiling face belongs to Rob Wolfe. He was born on January 6, 1962 in Soldier's Memorial Hospital in the beautiful town of Middleton, Nova Scotia. Rob spent his childhood in a small village called Kingston (yes, still in Nova Scotia - little kids don't move around much by themselves). As Rob grew older he attended Kingston Elementary School , a school that doesnt exist in its original location. As the years passed he moved on to attend West Kings District High School a few km up the road. Upon graduation from West Kings, in 1979, Rob jetted off to Toronto, Ontario where he attended Radio College of Canada , leaving with a certificate as an Electronic Engineering Technician. RCC is also where Rob met his first computer, an event which was to change his life. Rob spent the next year or so doing very little of consequence (yes, that means he was unemployed). In the fall of 1981, Rob decided that it was time to further his education. As a result he enrolled in the Mathematics program at Acadia University in Wolfville, NS (coincidentally the birthplace of his mother). During his first year at Acadia, Rob transferred to the Jodrey School of Computer Science and embarked on the course of study which was eventually to lead to his career. After several years at Acadia, including a work term spent working for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, Rob graduated with Bachelor's of Computer Science in 1988. Upon graduation, Rob journeyed to Ottawa, Ontario where he accepted a position with Statistics Canada , where he was to spend the next five years working on a variety of platforms and technologies. This is where Rob was first exposed to the database software which comes from Oracle , another career changing event. After leaving Statistics Canada, Rob went to work for a now no longer existing company which shall remain nameless. He then briefly worked as an independent consultant before being offered a position with DMR Consulting (now Fujitsu Consulting ). Rob's work with DMR moved him from Ottawa to Halifax,Nova Scotia. His work at DMR was mostly working with the Oracle DBMS for various clients. After a few years with DMR, Rob left in 2002 to take on new challenges at Atlantic Blue Cross Care. He has been there ever since. On a slightly more serious note, Rob has been diagnosed with Bipolar Affective Disorder. This is an illness sometimes known as Manic-Depression and it can be quite a debilitating condition. Luckily, Rob has been the recipient of good quality care from a series of doctors and other healthcare professionals. You will note on the right a link for the Mental Health Day Treatment Program at the Abbie J. Lane Hospital in Halifax. Rob recently spent some time in this program and is convinced that it is one of the most effective programs that he has ever heard of. |
